What happens when you don't have a father and you get suicidal thoughts?

  • #2
The two topics are really unrelated. Not having a father shouldn't interfere with you getting help for suicidal thoughts. The first question you can ask is who do you have in your life that you can talk to about them, preferably an adult. Parent/Guardian, Grandparent, Aunt/Uncle, Cousins, Trusted Adult, School Counselor, Religious Figure...you get the idea. Let them know you're having these thoughts so they can take some steps to get you help for them. Those steps might include getting a psychological screening or appointment with a mental health professional to see how they can help you. The thing to keep in mind is that it's not unusual to have suicidal thoughts, it happens to a lot of people for a number of reasons. But it is important to get help for them before the thoughts develop into planning or acting on them. If all else fails, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-8255 or the NJ Hopeline at (855) 654-6735 and speak with them about your thoughts. They are professionals that are there to help. Call or text us anytime at 888-222-2228.
