Thank you for reaching out to 2NDFLOOR. If you are under the age of 18 and there is suspicion of child abuse your school is obligated to contact the Division of Children and Family Services, now known as DCP&P, and report this suspicision. I can understand because upset and confused if you were talking to someone about this in confidence and they didn't make you aware that they would have to report the incident. I'm sorry that your mom isn't talking to you, but hitting you is not ok. If DCP&P has opened a case then it will be up to them whether or it will remain open or be closed. However, this doesn't have to be a bad thing. They may require counseling or they may give your mom resources so that something like this doesn't happen again. Every situation is different. This is a difficult and upsetting time for you, but we want you to know that you are not alone and we will help you in anyway that we can. If you want to talk more about this you can call 2NDFLOOR Youth Helpline 24/7 or text us daily 4-8PM at 888-222-2228.

If you are being hit by your Mom, you can report that to the Division of Child Protection and Permanency by calling 1-877-NJ-ABUSE or 1-877-652-2873 and making a report. You can also call us here at 888-222-2228 and we can make the call with you if you prefer.
