What are the NJ laws for confidentiality with a therapist if you're under 18 (I'm 17)? I want to know because I feel like I should discuss my sexual abuse history but I don't want my therapist to tell my parents or anyone else who could be called.

Glad you reached out to us. When someone is a minor and reports abuse, or is a threat to themself or someone else then legally/ethically that has to be reported. You can ask your therapist directly what are their ethical boundaries with your sessions and they will explain it to you so you can have clarity. Here is a link that might be helpful @ https://njaap.org/wp-content/uploads...uide_Final.pdf ....if you would like to talk about this or anything else, please call or text 2NDFLOOR at 888-222-2228. We are here 24/7.
