This kid asked me to the 8th grade formal .. Due to him asking in person I felt like I had to say yes .. We really never talk and it is just awkward .. None of my friends have "dates" to it and I would much rather being going and spending my time and taking pictures with them.. I need help of a nice way to tell him I can't go anymore

That does sound like a tricky situation. Well, just pull him aside alone and be honest. Tell him exactly what you just wrote to us and explain it is not personal, but that you would just like to go along with all your friends. Maybe, you could tell him that you will take some pictures with him and try to hang out with him a little during the formal too.
